Frederick—Chris Murray's move to Carroll Creek eliminated rental payments and created the atmosphere he's looking for when developing client relationships.

Mr. Murray moved from 220 N. Market St. to a second-floor suite in the South Market Center in the middle of June.

The reception area, offices and conference room are spacious, and the offices offer a beautiful view of Maxwell Place, a complex of 68 condominiums under construction across Carroll Creek from Murray Financial Group Inc.

"220 (N. Market St.) was a great location for 10 years, but I wanted to be an owner," Mr. Murray said.

"We have been able to create an atmosphere that appeals to our customers and meets their expectations. The office suite is easy to find, the parking garage is next door and clients like the development along Carroll Creek," he said.

On North Market Street, visitors stopped at a central location on the first floor and were directed to where they needed to go, Mr. Murray said. "Here, you get off the elevator, and you're at our offices. It makes our job easier."

His key staff members are Billie Griffith and Karen Banzoff. Mr. Murray said the development of the suite's space complements the work they do and how they do it.

Ms. Banzoff is executive assistant, and among her duties are managing the firm's compliance department and overseeing quarterly reporting for clients.

Ms. Griffith is director of communications, and her duties include overseeing planning for company functions and events, scheduling and screening guests for Mr. Murray's radio show, "Your Financial Editor," and taking care of the logistics for any marketing efforts.

Mr. Murray is close to hiring an office administrator, bringing the firm's employee total to five.

Murray Financial Group's Advisory board—Darby Jones, H. Mark Alexander Jr., Thomas Atkins and Larry Kenney—bring an outside perspective to discussions relating to industries, legal and accounting issues, investments and insurance, Mr. Murray said. The members are rotated about every two years, he said.

Ms. Jones is a lawyer with McEvoy & Dean P.C. in Frederick; Mr. Alexander is a CPA with OAO Mohn & Allen CPA's LLC in Frederick; Mr. Atkins is a regional consultant with AssetMark Investment Services in Washington; and Mr. Kenney is a Chartered Life Underwriter and a Chartered Financial Consultant with Phoenix Wealth Management Co. in Blue Bell, Pa.

Murray Financial Group also has institutional managers in major cities in North America, Europe, Asia and Australia.

"They make and develop strategies and recommendations based on the global arena," Mr. Murray said. "They can see, touch, taste, feel a potential investment rather than basing a decision on a computer screen."

Mr. Murray said that his firm has evolved over its 12 1/2 years of existence.

"We are able to provide services without a conflict of interest because we have no parent company that could cloud our judgment," Mr. Murray said. "We combine personal relationships with global tools."
