Small Business Receives Big Award

A Frederick businessman has been honored by the Small Business Administration for information he provides to the public on business and economic issues.
Chris Murray, president of Murray Financial Group Inc., will receive the 2007 Maryland Small Business Journalist award with 10 other winners today at the ceremony in Woodlawn, near Baltimore.
The award was part of the state's celebration of National Small Business Week, which took place April 23-27.
The award signifies for Murray that his financial message is reaching the public. "We discuss financial issues with a kitchen table mentality to provide the information at an understandable level without denigrating the importance or urgency of the issue," Murray said.
"Our goal is to bring educational and unbiased information to people so they can make the best possible decision for themselves, their business and their family," he said.
All 50 states offer awards programs in conjunction with the national effort, said Stephen Umberger, director of the Baltimore SBA district, which includes all of Maryland, except for Montgomery and Prince George's counties. For a decade, from 8 to 9 a.m. Saturday, Murray has hosted a live radio program, "Your Financial Editor," on AM 930 WFMD. Murray's program is the No. 2-rated show on the weekend behind Blaine Young's "Frederick's Forum," said Troy Skinner, general sales manager of Clear Channel-owned WFRE-FM and WFMD-AM in Frederick.
We have a number of shows on Saturday and Sunday, and his 10-year run indicates that his show has been well-received," Skinner said.
Murray contributed columns for The Frederick News Post's Frederick Business Week, and the Ask the Expert series on the newspaper's website. He takes part in The News-Post's Money Panel on Sundays.
Murray has contributed to The Wall Street Journal, Maryland Life Magazine, Frederick Magazine, Smart CEO Magazine and My Maryland Magazine, according to Billie Coursey, director of communications for Murray Financial Group.
Murray has also appeared on Fox 45 TV in Baltimore, Coursey said.
